During these uncertain times where our civil rights have been restricted, it’s imperative to know how to use video to document injustices and how to use those recordings as evidence. In a moment when social distancing is largely limiting our communications to the phone and internet, it becomes more imperative that people have the ability to safely record and share with others what they are seeing. It is our belief that although our rights may be limited due to the COVID-19 pandemic, police misconduct hasn’t stopped and we must continue to advocate for each other in any way we can.
With this in mind, WeCopwatch has created a free, downloadable booklet that outlines everything you need to know to monitor the police during the COVID pandemic.
In the coming weeks, we will be releasing the PDF’s accompanying online course, which will be the first of a series of classes to be released here on Copwatch College in the coming months. So be sure to check back regularly and sign up for our newsletter for news and updates.
Inspired by Berkeley Copwatch’s UC Berkeley class and motivated by daily requests for support and training, WeCopwatch has created a standardized training curriculum called Copwatch College that is based on years of hands-on experience, covering five modules that are typically taught over the span of three to four days.
We take our trainings out of the classroom and we bring them into the streets. We believe the best way to teach is to provide a balance of information and real life examples so you can determine what works best for you.
This learning material is free for anyone with a computer, tablet, or smart phone and can be utilized by individuals or groups interested in understanding more about their rights and best practices when observing the police. This learning system has the capability of being used offline with our downloadable informational material which can be printed and distributed in the streets or used during trainings.
